June 1995 Comic Book Sales to Comics Shops by Diamond

This was the last month that Diamond Comic Distributors had the right to sell Marvel titles, thanks to Marvel's December 1994 purchase of Heroes World Distribution. Diamond would only begin to sell them again when Heroes World folded in April 1997.

So this was the end of unified sales charts of any kind, until I integrated Diamond and Heroes World data in September 1996. Diamond changed its tracking title to Batman in advance of Marvel's departure; henceforth, its reported top sellers would mostly be DC and Image issues for more than a year. Diamond had been making moves of its own, signing publishers including DC to exclusives beginning in July.

Capital City Distribution had preorders of 41,375 copies of Amazing Spider-Man #404, and the title's Statement of Ownership reported average monthly sales comics-shop and newsstand sales of 208,090 copies for the year. Diamond's sales on that issue were likely in the 76,000-copy range, meaning one point on this chart equals 700-800 comic books sold by Diamond.

At Capital, the top-seller was Marvel's X-Men #43. With newsstand and subscription sales, the X-Men issue almost certainly was the better seller overall

June was the last month Marvel was included in the charts, and it took the top slot on its way out — with a comic book that never came out. Wolverine: Rahne Fall was the sequel to Rahne of Terra, but the volume was never produced. Because these are preorders, however, it still made the top of the charts. Diamond did not publish order index numbers for graphic novels in this era, so units cannot be estimated.
