September 2001 Comic Book Sales to Comics Shops

In a month in which the New York City-centric comics industry dealt with the impact of the September 11 attacks, what would be a significant turning point arrived in the industry's fortunes with the release of Wolverine: The Origin #1.
Aggregate unit preorders actually dipped a bit for comic books, while preorder dollars were almost identical to August's total. Once TPBs and graphic novels are figured in, September represented a slight drop form August 2001, but still a slight increase over September 2000. That said, five-year comparisons were finally available, revealing that unit sales were off a whopping 47% from five years before.
Diamond did release dollar rankings for the Top 300 comics; these will be added at a later date.
