February 1996 Comic Book Sales to Comics Shops by Diamond

The top-seller for the month was almost certainly Marvel Vs. DC #3, which, published by Marvel, could not be ordered through Diamond. The Amalgam issues released the last week of the month, but were solicited in the March catalog and appear in the next month's charts.

The statistics Diamond reported for February were distorted because they did not incude DC's sales for the final week of February; retailers had been given a chance to order those comics separately, to preserve the surprise of the Amalgam project the publisher had engineered with Marvel. The sales were reported in the March report. 

Publishers Antarctic, Dynamic Forces, Event, and Graphitti signed agreements in February guaranteeing that Diamond would continue distributing their products — just not exclusively. That took those publishers off the table as possible emigres to Capital City.

As of February, Diamond drew down its distribution network to just eight regional distribution centers: Plattsburgh, N.Y., Baltimore, Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, Seattle, and London. Diamond also shifted all reorders to ship UPS.

Marvel, Viz, Kitchen Sink, and Coppervale were not distributed by Diamond this month.
Diamond was the only distributor carrying DC, Dark Horse, Image, Acclaim, Crusade, Gemstone, London Night, and Broadway comics, as well as Wizard's magazines.
