August 1996 Comic Book Sales to Comics Shops

Estimated Comics Preordered by North American Comics Shops
Based on Reports from Diamond Comic Distributors

With the purchase of Capital City by Diamond on July 26, 1996, there were only a few small distributors left handling comics, such as Cold Cut and Big Picture. Diamond's charts thereafter contained the vast majority of non-Marvel sales until DC departed in July 2020.

Capital City took orders for comics shipping in August 1996 but did not publish its sales charts in its final Internal Correspondence magazine. While it was technically Diamond that sold the comics that Capital took orders for, it is evident that the tables below do not reflect Capital's orders, as Viz does not appear in the market shares. Viz would return to Diamond preorder lists in September.
